Romantic Light Filled Artist's Studio on 112 Acres w/ River Access
Our setting will capture your attention and inspire you. Located within easy driving distance of Georgetown, Austin, Salado, and the Texas Hillcountry, you are close to all the recreation activities you desire. The Studio at Scurlock Farms is a charming artist's studio on the outskirts of Georgetown, Texas offering beautiful long-range views of the San Gabriel River bottom from an elevated wooded bluff. The farm has 1/2 mile of river frontage and the river itself is about a 2 block hike from The Studio. Deep in the heart of Texas, down a country lane, and in the middle of a 112 acre working farm, The Studio has pastoral tranquility . You can enjoy all that Austin has to offer - just a 30 minute drive away. Stay here and go in to enjoy a UT game, SXSW music festival, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, or the Bob Bullock TX Museum, where you can experience a true taste of Texas culture. Georgetown has its own art and music festivals, such as Festival of the Arts, Red Poppy Festival (April), Downtown Christmas Stroll (December), and the First Saturday on the Square days - vendors set up all around the square with their crafts, plants and homemade goodies. You may choose to explore the InnerSpace Caverns in Georgetown, swim in the gorgeous Blue Hole, golf one of the many courses in the area, or hike or bike the miles of trails around the beautiful city park or Lake Georgetown. The Studio also makes an ideal home base for day trips to wineries in the local area as well as in the Hill Country, to see and photograph wildflowers and go shopping at the Round Rock Outlet Mall with IKEA or antiquing. Within walking distance to the San Gabriel River, the restored studio is on a working farm. See horses, cows and goats and feel your stress melt away as you inhale the freshly mown hay from the pasture. Relax surrounded in rustic beauty with a clear view of the night sky and stars, perfect for stargazing. Enjoy eating at the outdoor seating area and enjoy the gorgeous sunsets with a glass of wine. Pick up pecans if you'd like. Archaeology buffs can hunt the limestone river banks for a variety of fossils or the hillside for Tonkawa and Cherokee Indian arrowheads. We have many birders stop along the property trying to catch sight of the many species we have seen on the farm. Maybe you'd prefer to have a campfire and weenie roast on the banks of the river? Take the picnic basket and cooler that are provided and go for a picnic along the river. Practice your casting in the San Gabriel or sit on the bank and watch the catfish and bass swim by. One of our recent guests caught many fish - several 15" bass and lots of bluegills. Make yourselves at home while you are in our care. Spring brings the bluebonnets and other wildflowers. Fall brings crisp days and brilliant blue skys and it's a great time for leaf peeping and photographing migrating birds. The Studio, a small cottage built of river rocks, was hand crafted by famed Texas landscape artist C. P. Montague and her husband. The original owner used the studio to create and display the Texas Hill Country landscapes for which she was best known. Many of her works were completed while sitting at her easel at the wall of 7' northern- exposure windows. Bring your palette and paints; you'll be inspired too! This private, non-smoking accommodation is wonderful for writing, painting, honeymooning or simply getting away from it all. The Studio amenities will make your Hill Country vacation a memorable one. The open living area is comfortably furnished with seating in front of the fireplace and rock hearth; unlimited firewood is provided. The dining table has seating for four, and the fully appointed kitchen boasts new appliances. The Queen bed (linens furnished ) promises sweet dreams with luxury linens. The bathroom with shower has fluffy spa towels, paper goods and soap. All you need to bring are your personal items. With many good restaurants in nearby Georgetown, several with live music, groceries are optional. Brew up the provided coffee, tea or hot chocolate in the morning and enjoy the breakfast of fresh homemade muffins and fresh fruit provided for you. Eat in at the dining table or enjoy your meal outdoors in the seating area overlooking the bluff. The hummingbirds and other colorful birds will enjoy their meals along with you at their feeders. Numerous excellent camping, hiking, fishing and water-related activities can be found at Cedar Breaks, Jim Hogg and Russell Parks, all located around Lake Georgetown. Southwestern University is 10 minutes away, and is located next to the public-friendly Kurth-Landrum Golf Course and Tennis Courts. It's a short drive to the Round Rock Outlet Mall, including IKEA, and to Del Webb's Sun City. The new Formula 1 Race Track in Elroy is only 45 miles away via the 130 Tollroad (80 mph). Regardless of what you choose to do each day, when the day is done, it's great to return to The Studio and sit in front of the fire. Enjoy a glass of wine, or sit in the shade under the oaks and enjoy the serenity and beauty of the farm. You and your loved one will have the best seat in the house to watch the spectacular sunsets to the west and listen to the owls as they wake up to begin their day at dusk. The Studio is a perfect getaway for one or two. You'll be so comfortable that you will never want to leave.
